kvl designs' are unique, handcrafted organic and elegant silver jewellery designs.  kvl Designs is based in beautiful Stellenbosch in the Western Cape, South Africa, where all our jewellery is designed and handmade by the jewellery designer and artist Karien van Langelaar.

My love for nature, its beauty and intricate detail expressed in all natural forms, shapes and textures, is the source of my inspiration. Circles and solid shapes representing the conceptual aspect of wholeness, and being bound together with nature is expressed and explored throughout my work. We manufacture mostly in silver as it offers various interesting surface finishes and textures.

I have always enjoyed pushing boundaries through various jewellery techniques and mediums, especially through a technique called fly press, smithing metal and wax carvings to create as much volume as possible.

After completing a BA fine art degree in jewellery and metal techniques at Stellenbosch University in 2012, I had the opportunity to complete a further 3 months intensive contemporary jewellery course in Florence, Italy, at Alchamia: Contemporary Jewellery School. During my time at Alchamia, I was introduced to techniques to enhance and compliment my technical abilities, which resulted in my work having a more enhanced contemporary feel.

kvl Designs was launched in 2015, and although we are growing, my jewellery pieces will always be a part of me as each piece is individually handcrafted with delicate attention to detail, honesty and pure enjoyment. I have come to enjoy working with new clients as well as returning clients, and especially designing individual pieces for them.
